Special FKP: ANU Indonesia Project PhD Alumni Policy Forum
As part of the ANU Indonesia Project’s 60th anniversary celebrations, a special edition of the Forum Kajian Pembangunan (FKP) was held in collaboration with LPEM FEB UI and The SMERU Research Institute, showcasing the contributions of distinguished ANU PhD alumni to policy-relevant research on Indonesia’s development.
The session was chaired by Jonathan Gilbert, Minister Counsellor for Economic, Investment and Infrastructure at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Three accomplished alumni presented their research. Dr Deasy Pane discussed issues of trade and industrial policy, reflecting on how Indonesia faces a range of unresolved structural and policy challenges. Dr Abdurohman examined pressing macroeconomic challenges, including stability and growth in an uncertain global environment. Professor Arief Anshory Yusuf addressed the enduring problems of poverty and inequality, offering three main reforms that promote more inclusive development outcomes.
The forum benefited from thoughtful reflections by discussants Riatu Qibthiyyah (LPEM FEBUI) and Asep Suryahadi (SMERU), who engaged critically with the presentations and connected the research to Indonesia’s current policy debates.
