BIES Economic Forum

The ANU Indonesia Project hosted the BIES Economic Forum in Jakarta, bringing together recent authors of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies (BIES) and the journal’s editorial team. Held at the Auditorium MPKP, Kampus UI Salemba, the forum provided a unique opportunity for scholars, policymakers, and students to gain insight into the editorial and publication process of Indonesia’s leading journal on economic and social research.

The forum consist of:

  1. Meet Recent Authors, chaired by Firman Witoelar from the ANU Indonesia Project, featuring presentations from Jahen Rezki (LPEM FEB UI), Anna Falentina (Statistics Indonesia), and Cosimo Thawley (Australian Treasury). The session focused on the authors’ experiences navigating the submission and review process, as well as their reflections on the challenges and opportunities of publishing in a high-impact academic journal.

  2. Meet the BIES Editors, chaired by Yohanna Gultom (MPKP FEB UI), participants engaged with the editorial team including Firman Witoelar, Sarah Dong, and Arianto Patunru, exploring the journal’s approach to evaluating submissions, maintaining scholarly standards, and ensuring the accessibility of research findings to a diverse audience.

The Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies, housed at the ANU Indonesia Project and published by Taylor & Francis under the Routledge imprint, has been continuously contributing to the understanding of Indonesia’s economy and society since 1965. Through articles addressing economic analysis, development, and policy, as well as its Survey of Recent Developments, BIES plays a vital role in connecting research with practical insights for academics, policymakers, and the broader public. The forum highlighted the journal’s continued relevance in fostering high-quality research and promoting dialogue on Indonesia’s economic and social challenges.
